So you’ve picked the best place, eh?
Welcome to Swansea Bay GP Training Scheme
The Swansea bay GP Training Scheme
Covering Swansea and Neath Port Talbot.
Vibrant City life of Swansea. The glorious beaches of the Gower. The stunning Waterfalls at Glynneath’s doorstep.
What to Expect.
what to expect?
The GP Speciality Training course is going to be a memorable three years. It’s slightly longer if you’re less than full time.
An example three year run might be:
- GST1: 6 months in GP, 6 months in hospital
- GPST2: 6 months in hospital 6 months in GP
- GPST3: 12 months in GP
So 1 year in hospital and 2 years in GP-land
In GP-land you’ll get:
- Protected teaching time for tutorials
- Protected self directed learning time
- Protected Group teaching
- Study budget that can roll over to next year if unused
There’s more information below on exactly how much protected teaching time you’ll get. But it’s pretty good.

GP Training, Much Like A Waterfall, Follows A Structured Flow
GP training, much like a waterfall, follows a structured flow.
It begins with a trickle of foundational knowledge, gradually gaining momentum as it cascades through clinical experiences, mentorship, and patient encounters. The journey, like water over rocks, shapes and polishes the future general practitioners, carving their expertise and resilience along the way
